TW Top Mobile

The TW Top Mobile was a 12v AM/CW receiver covering 1.8 - 2.0 Mhz. The receiver could be used on its own or in conjunction with the TW Topbander transmitter. The four photographs below (kindly supplied by Ian G6RHV) show a TW Top Mobile receiver that appears to be in excellent external condition.

As can be seen in the photographs below, the 'inside' of the receiver is also in excellent condition. The audio board on this model is mounted above the chassis on the same side as the IF board, whereas on the photo further down this page (and also on the photographs of the Two Mobile) the audio board is below the chassis.

The images to the left and below (courtesy of Ben Nock G4BXD) show what I believe is a later model with a black front panel rather than the Hammerite finish on earlier models.

The 'innards of this particular model are shown in the photographs below.

The similarity between this receiver and the TW Two Mobile is blatantly obvious if you compare the photographs of both. Note the position of the AF circuit board on this unit compared to the one above.

Another very clean Top Mobile Receiver (and its partner Topbander transmitter) made a very rare appearance on Ebay early in 2013.  The pictures of this receiver below were kindly supplied by Bob Mort. The equipment belonged to his late uncle G3ODK who lived in Preston Lancs. The photos of the transmitter may be seen in the transmitter section of this website.

As may be seen from these four photographs this unit appears to have been in absolutely pristine condition, almost as if it had just come off the TW production line.

Clearly, somebody else thought so to because it sold for an almost unbelievable price of £102 (they sold for just under £20 in 1963 !!)
